    Dr. Prasad has established a rigorous research program to identify novel signaling mechanisms regulating beta-adrenergic receptor function. Beta-adrenergic receptors are one of the strongest regulators of cardiac function, and their function is significantly compromised as the heart progresses towards cardiac dysfunction and failure. Therefore, his laboratory is aimed to understand the underlying molecular mechanisms could potentially lead to novel therapeutic strategies.

    Growing up in the rural town of Pattiveeranpatti, Tamilnadu, India, Dr. Sadayappan was destined to be a coconut farmer. Armed with innate academic ability and a thirst for more knowledge, he continued his graduate and doctoral studies, taking a long road leading, finally, to the post of Professor of Internal Medicine at University of Cincinnati. With his expertise in molecular cardiology, Sadayappan established his lab in 2009, and since then, he has been committed to investigating the regulatory, structural and functional role(s) of the striated muscle protein, myosin binding protein-C, in health and disease.

    Dr. Paruchuri’s lab focuses on elucidating eicosanoid (leukotrienes and prostaglandin) signaling in causing endothelial dysfunction, heart and lung remodeling during cardiac fibrosis and chronic asthma. Eicosanoids are potent bioactive lipids generated from arachidonic acid and play an important role in the initiation and progression of inflammation by acting as potent vasoconstrictors and enhancing vascular permeability. The overarching goal of Paruchuri’s lab is to understand their signaling and targeting them towards obtaining novel therapies for various inflammatory disorders.

    Research in Kishore laboratory is focused on several specific areas within the overall theme of identifying novel insights into cardiovascular disease mechanisms and the translational integration of mechanistic studies in relevant physiological models. The major focus of ongoing research encompasses investigations into multiple approaches to enhance cardiovascular repair and regeneration after post-myocardial infarction.

  • Susmita Sahoo, PhD

    Dr. Sahoo has completed her education and training at the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai and at Northwestern University, Chicago. She has established a new line of research in the field of Cardiovascular Regenerative Medicine to study miniature biological vesicles secreted by cells called exosomes and their role in cardiac regeneration.
