The SAHR Early Career Committee

Mission:

The Early Career Committee (ECC) at the Society for South Asian Heart Research (SAHR) aims to provide a platform for early-stage investigators (including doctoral, postdoctoral, and assistant professors or equivalent) of South Asian origin to network, learn, and overcome the challenges faced by them. ECC engages in organizing monthly seminar series, providing career advice, developing educational programs, and organizing scientific sessions dedicated to early career investigators at the annual Asian Cardiovascular Symposium.

Meet the Team

Dhanendra Tomar, PhD

CHAIR
Dr. Tomar is currently a tenure-track Assistant Professor at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, North Carolina. He received his PhD in Cell Biology from the University of Pune, India, and completed research training at the University of Bordeaux, France and Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, Philadelphia. His current research focuses on mitochondrial calcium-sensing and flux, protein quality control, and how these molecular events contribute to cardiac physiology and pathophysiology.

Venkata N Srikanth Garikipati, PhD

VICE CHAIR
Dr. Garikipati holds the position of Assistant Professor at the Aging+ Cardiovascular Discovery Center and the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences at Temple University Lewis Katz School of Medicine. Dr. Garikipati's lab is dedicated to the long-term goal of uncovering and defining the functions of novel non-coding RNAs, with a focus on identifying potential therapeutic targets for myocardial infarction and associated heart failure.

Sumita Mishra, PhD

Immediate PAST CHAIR
Dr. Mishra is a tenure-track assistant professor at Virginia Tech Carilion, specializing in Cardiovascular Medicine. Her academic journey includes significant training and a faculty position at the Division of Cardiology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where her research on Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF) was particularly notable.
